Hans Moller Director's Blog - Make the World Great Again
Hans Rosling was a medical doctor and professor in International Health at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. Unfortunately he passed away last year after a long battle with cancer. That was of course a big loss for his family and friends, but also for the entire world.
Knowing he had a terminal illness he devoted the last two years of his life to co-write a book together with his son Ola and Anna, Ola’s wife. It is called Factfulness and it is an urgent and essential book that will change the way you see the world, if you dare to read it.
If you read just one book for the rest of your life, this is the one! This remark I direct especially to Donald Trump, who according to several sources doesn’t read at all! The most powerful man in the world right now, seems to form his views of the world by looking at American talk shows and morning news. No wonder he ends up jumping from one crisis to the other. Really scary!
Hans Rosling recognised this many years ago, and started to educate people about the big health trends around the world. If you do a search of Hans Rosling, you will find a number of TED-talks and seminars he gave which are both eye opening, but also entertaining. It turns out that the world is in a much better state than we might think. But when we worry about everything all the time, instead of embracing a worldview based on facts, we can lose our ability to focus on the things that threaten us most. There are of course a number of bad things happening, but if you just look at facts in international health, the world is getting better.
